Every year thousands of senior citizens flock to Canadian pharmacies in search of savings on their prescription medication. Many seniors lack full health coverage and are forced to pay for their prescription medication out of pocket.

Others have reached the gap in coverage of the new Medicare plan D otherwise known as the "doughnut hole". Whatever the case may be one thing is for sure, Canada offers substantial discounts on prescription medication.

Canadian pharmacies have been the alternative for seniors who are not given adequate coverage from Medicare or insurance. For many seniors making the trip up to Canada to fill their prescriptions is just part of their normal routine. Two seniors interviewed by the Detroit Free Press said, "Every three months, we go to Canada." The two seniors Jerry and her husband Jim have been taking the 4 ½ hour bus trip organized specially to purchase their medication. For the last 4 years, Jerry and her husband Jim go to fill her prescription of Prevacid , which is used to treat ulcers and gastro esophageal reflux. They save an average of around $300 per trip.

Even seniors that are covered by insurance find it a cheaper solution to fill their prescriptions in Canada. Mary Morgan explains, "I discovered that after paying the monthly and paying the deductible, I'm still ahead here, I'm not going to pay $30 more every month for Medicare.

Right now I pay $228 Canadian (about $196 U.S.) every three months. They're trying to scare me into it, but I'm not going to be pressured or bullied." Seniors that purchase their prescription medication from Canada have found that they usually get a 3 month supply of their prescription medication for what their local pharmacy charges for a one month supply.

Another valuable resource that seniors are just beginning to tap into to help save on their prescription medication is the internet. Now instead of making the long road trip to Canada, many seniors have found pharmaceutical comparison websites.

Websites such as Premier Mexican Pharmacies.com deliver Canadian as well as other foreign pharmacies without ever leaving your own home. Not only is it convenient, it is more cost effective and safe. Premier Mexican Pharmacies.com allows you to compare prices on all Canadian pharmacies so you get the best price, not to mention all the pharmacies are rated, reviewed, and approved through its local authorities as well as Premiers strenuous pharmacy approval process.
