On 10 2006 September Vasile Stoica completed a grueling summer-long Pan-European trek in a manual wheelchair. What did he do to celebrate? After a 5 day break, he began the next leg of his journey, a 2200 KM journey from Spain to Düsseldorf, Germany where he plans to arrive on 18 October in time for the Rehacare Exhibition. Ms Manuela Preinbergs, spokeswoman for Rehacare International said, “It’s wonderful that Mr. Stoica has chosen REHACARE International in Düsseldorf as the finish for the second leg of his spectacular wheelchair odyssey. We look forward to welcoming him as our guest at the Sports Center in Hall 7a. Our visitors will undoubtedly be thrilled at the opportunity to meet him there.” Vasi is from Romania and has been paralyzed from birth. He has completed several long distance treks in a wheelchair including a round the world in a wheelchair trip and 66 days from LA to Chicago on Route 66. He has broken the Guinness book of world records for covering the longest distance in a wheelchair in 24 hours. Dr Gene Emmer from NewDisability.com interviewed Vasi shortly after he finished his 5250 KM journey from Romania to Spain. Vasi told NewDisability that he is already planning to travel by wheelchair from Paris to Dakar, Senegal, the route of the famous Paris to Dakar Rally in 2007, if he can find sponsors.
