When life is made infinitely more complicated by being disabled, and the simplest things become more difficult, price may be the only thing that stops you from purchasing the aids that can make life so much easier.
However, it is important to remember that as a disabled person you can get certain items a lot cheaper than other people.
As a disabled person you are eligible for tax free purchases of certain goods. That means you can get them 17 ½ percent cheaper than if you were buying them with VAT included.
Goods which you can purchase are those which have been designed specifically for disabled people or which have been adapted for use by disabled people. Servicing these goods and adapting buildings to use by disabled people are also included.
To qualify for tax free products you need to be suffering from chronic illness or a disability, but you do not need to be a registered disabled person.
When buying disabled products such as wheelchairs, scooters and living aids on the internet, remember to choose an e-store that gives you the option of buying this equipment without paying VAT.
While no specific proof is needed that you are chronically ill or disabled, you will need to complete a declaration of eligibility.
So enjoy your shopping – and make sure you get your 17 ½ percent discount!
