Gynecomastia or man boobs is not only embarrassing for many men, but it is also much more common than you might think.

But what causes gynecomastia, or man boobs as it is also known as? Here are 6 common causes for this health condition and some of them may surprise you.

1. Massive Weight Loss

For men who suddenly lose a significant amount of weight, such as 50 pounds or more, sagging breast tissue can be the cause of gynecomastia. This makes sense when you think about, but it is not always the case with all men. And in most cases the problem can be corrected with chest exercises.

2. Anabolic Steroids

Although steroids are in the news today more than ever and have been banned everywhere, the problem still continues to exist. Many bodybuilders develop gynecomastia and pectoral fat from the use of steroids.

3. Marijuana

Smoking marijuana on a long term consistent basis has been shown to cause man boobs over time.

These are the most common causes of developing gynecomastia. To treat the condition most people believe that surgery is the only solution, but this simply is not true.
