IMPRUVE is the Independent Movement of Paratransit Riders for Unity, Vehicles, Equality. We work with the Rider-Driver Alliance (RDA) of mass transit and paratransit riders and drivers to stop PACE and CTA fare increases, layoffs and service cuts. Stay in touch with RDA and IMPRUVE. Mission/purpose:

We are persons with disabilities certified through RTA or family members who ride CTA, PACE, taxi, and METRA door-to-door and mainline services in Chicago and suburbs. Founded in 2000. We have rider-driver unity. We support carriers who have the best interest of paratransit riders at heart and are willing to work with us to improve services and resolve customer service issues without legal battles.

We look into ways to keep paratransit affordable, safe, and pleasant for both client and driver. We meet with or keep PACE Paratransit informed of critical systemic issues.

IMPRUVE tries to be pro-active rather than reactive. However, due to unaffordable fare hikes of $150 for ADA pass as of Feb. 2008, & threat to door-to-door service in Chicago & unfair zones, we support radical change i.e. legal action, protest rallies, summits, sit-ins.

Main issues for 2008-12: Reduce fares, safer & more comfortable vehicles, waive paratransit farebox collection, set up our own van pool & carrier, closed paratransit union shops, show Bus Riders Union movie, carrier accountability, PACE accountability to clients, reduce retaliation to riders and drivers, improve training of drivers & clients to end attitudinal barriers, improve awareness of rights & paratransit procedures, improve paratransit operations, and ownership of paratransit by riders, drivers.
