The Official Skype iPhone Client has Arrived!

Today Skype launched its iPhone application bringing its much-anticipated Internet-based phone service to Apple's mobile or cell phone platform.

Skype uses your Broadband internet account and all calls via the internet to another Skype user are absolutely free, even if they live on the other side of the world - you can also make calls to landline and mobiles at a very reasonable and reduced rate.

Skype for iPhone is free application. With the Skype iPhone app, users will be able to make free calls using Wi-Fi to other Skype users as well as use their Skype accounts to make reduced price calls to traditional landline phones.

Skype has said that iPhone users will be able to use its internet telephony service to make calls, but only using wi-fi and not the mobile network.

Skype for iPhone features five tabs at the bottom of the phone screen, that display your contacts, chats, calling panel, your call history, as well as your profile. Skype's VoIP app for iPhone looks very similar to your traditional iPhone app than it does Skype 4.0 for Windows.

Calls made on Skype for iPhone will work only if you are in range of a Wi-Fi (wireless Internet) network.

Skype for iPhone will be available for download from Apple's iTunes store from today, Tuesday 31 March 2009. This new service will allow users to make free calls to other Skype users, but will charge for calls to other numbers not in the Skpe network.

Skype plan to launch a similiar service for BlackBerry cell phone users in May 2009.
