Instructions

To use the Daily Diabetes Diet Counter, first click your daily caloric intake to update the maximum number of parts for each food (according to the National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse). Then, just keep this window open throughout the day. As you eat foods, just input them into the form, one entry per food.

The page uses Javascript to keep running totals and a list of foods without having to request information from the web site, so after you initially load the page, you don't even need to be online to use it. Tips when Planning a Diabetic Diet:

* Eat five fruits and vegetables every day

* Avoid intake of excessive sugar in the diet or change to a sugar free diet.

* Beware of high calorie foods which can result in weight gain.

* Have a piece of fruit or two as a snack, or add vegetables to chili, stir-fried dishes or stews. You can also pack raw vegetables for lunch or snacks.

* Eat more starches - include bread (wheat), cereal and starchy vegetables in your daily diet. Aim for six servings a day or more. For example, have cold cereal with nonfat milk or a bagel with a teaspoon of jelly for breakfast.
