Skype was created in August of 2003 and is now solely owned by eBay since October 2005. There are now more than 75 million Skype users worldwide. Talk, listen, watch, read, write to anyone, anywhere in the world without worrying about cost, distance or time is what Skype state on their website.

Skype IM is like any other Instant Messaging program, but concentrates far more on VOIP (Voice Over IP) capabilities.
