The American Psychological Association and Psychology Toady recommended the CDI website during its very first year of operation. Thousands of sites, to include universities, professional organizations, school districts and public agencies, link to the CDI website. The CDI website receives greater than four-million visitors each year.

The CDI site will be presented in February with a panel of experts who will be writing monthly feature articles as well as several blog posts per week. The organization will also start weekly podcasts that contain news, interviews with experts, and tips. The CDI website will offer, 'The CDI Parent Store,' which will be stocked with select assortments of books, audio programs and additional products that have been reviewed and chosen by their experts. The CDI's Child Development section is being completely revamped and will present more in-depth information regarding developmental stages, to include specific tips for parents on ways to nurture the development of their children.

The information available at this very moment on the Child Development Institute's website is impressive. There is information related to children with disabilities that is very informative, useful and valuable. The information is scholarly and has been put together by educated people in the field. What follows are a very few examples of the information to be found on this magnificent website.

Parents of children who experience a form of disability play a crucial role in the educational process of their children. Federal legislation guarantees the right of parents to participate in the educational decision-making process. As a child with a disability progresses through educational systems, it is important for the child's parents to know and follow through on both their rights and responsibilities, ensuring that they are a contributing partner with professionals who will influence their child's future. The brochure on, 'Rights and Responsibilities of Children with Disabilities,' brochure through the CDI provides parents of children with disabilities with an introduction to their rights and responsibilities in the special education process.

At least ten-percent of the population experiences a learning disability at this time. The CDI website has a page where parents can learn facts about learning disabilities, as well as uncover some of the myths. Parents who visit this page are provided with practical solutions to assist both children and adolescents with learning disabilities to greatly improve their academic achievements, as well as their self esteem. The page on, 'About Learning Disabilities,' through the CDI website approaches questions such as:

What is a learning disability
What causes learning disabilities
How prevalent are learning disabilities
What are the "early warning signs" of learning disabilities
How does a learning disability affect the parents of the child
What should a parent do if it is suspected that a child has a learning disability

Children with disabilities were once denied the opportunity to attended school with their non-disabled peers in society. As the process of, 'mainstreaming,' children who experience various forms of disabilities continues, it is important for the school systems and parents to be informed and aware of disability issues. Preparing children with disabilities for school is also important and the CDI, through this page on their website, presents answers to a number of questions. The questions approached through this page include:

What Role Do Families Play
What Role Do Teachers Play
What Are the Elements of a Successful Transition Process
How Does the Federal Government Support Readiness for Children with Disabilities
What Special Problems Are Faced by Children with Disabilities As They Make the Transition from Preschool to the General School Setting

Children with dyslexia experience difficulty with learning to read due to one or more problems with information processing, such as auditory perceptual deficits, or visual perceptual ones. A number of children with this type of disability have difficulty with reversals of letters, words, or numbers. Recent research points the way towards particular means of instruction which may assist anyone with learning to read, despite the underlying issue. This page through the CDI presents links that give visitors answers to questions regarding dyslexia, information, and effective solutions for all types of reading problems - to include developmental dyslexia. Items approached through this page include:

What is dyslexia
Helping Children With Reversals
What causes dyslexia and reading problems

A study conducted at State University of New York at Buffalo states, "combining behavior modification therapy with medication is the most effective way to improve the behavior of many ADHD children. In fact, when the two are combined, the study showed, the amount of medication required to achieve the same results as use of medication alone can be reduced by two-thirds". The, 'Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment for Children with ADHD,' page at the CDI website presents information regarding this study, as well as information about ADHD - www.childdevelopmentinfo.com
