Virginia Diner, Inc. is voluntarily recalling Gourmet Deluxe Mixed Nuts which contain Pistachios. This is in response to the expanded recall of pistachios announced by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc., on April 6, 2009 due to a potential contamination with Salmonella.

Virginia Diner, Inc. is voluntarily recalling Gourmet Deluxe Mixed Nuts which contain Pistachios. This is in response to the expanded recall of pistachios announced by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc., on April 6, 2009 due to a potential contamination with Salmonella.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. The Virginia Diner has not received any reports of illness or injury regarding these products.

The recall applies only to the Deluxe Mixed Nuts listed below. The recall does not apply to any other Virginia Diner or Galloway’s Original branded products.

Some of these items may have been purchased within combination gift packs.

These Mixed Nuts were sold and distributed nationwide, via the Internet, email, mail, phone and faxed orders. The Virginia Diner, Inc. is asking wholesalers to remove the potentially impacted Mixed Nuts from retail store shelves. Consumers should return the product to the store from which it was purchased for a refund.
