Louisiana Disability Statistics - There are an estimated 763,000 people in the state of Louisiana over the age of five who have a form of disability. Approximately 153,000 people with disabilities, or 3.8% of the state's population, experience difficulties with performing activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, or moving around inside of their homes. There are around 427,000 people in the state who have a form of work disability, and 142,000 people with disabilities in Louisiana who are employed. Around 27,000 people with disabilities in the state are unemployed, while 268,000 are currently not in the workforce.

Louisiana Assistive Technology Access Network (LATAN) - LATAN is a 501(c)(3) statewide nonprofit organization that connects individuals with disabilities and older persons to the Assistive Technology (AT) that enables independence in employment, school, and community living - www.latan.org

Lighthouse for the Blind New Orleans - The Lighthouse for the Blind serves people in the region who are blind or visually impaired by providing job training, competitive employment, and services - lhb.org

Louisiana School for the Deaf - Our school, which was established in 1852, has provided excellence in education for over 150 years. We serve approximately 500 deaf or hard of hearing children and their families, making us one of the major schools for the deaf in the nation - www.lalsd.org

Spina Bifida of Greater New Orleans (SBGNO) - The Spina Bifida of Greater New Orleans, Inc. (SB of GNO) is a non-profit, tax exempt organization for the expressed purpose of providing services to those persons born with Spina Bifida and their families, and to increase public awareness about Spina Bifida and its prevention - ww.sbgno.org

Special Olympics Louisiana - Special Olympics is an international organization that changes lives by promoting understanding, acceptance, and inclusion between people with and without intellectual disabilities - www.laso.org

Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council - The Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council is made up of people from every region of the state who are appointed by the governor to develop and implement a five year plan to address the needs of persons with developmental disabilities - www.laddc.org/main/
