Legislation established October as Disability History and Awareness Month in Maryland and encourages schools to educate students on the history of disabilities and promote knowledge and understanding of disabilities and those affected by them.   • There are an estimated 666,000 people in the state of Maryland over the age of five who have a form of disability.
