Disability Services Re-shuffled off LNP Agenda - Queensland Disability News

Disability Services have fallen off the LNP’s policy agenda in the latest Opposition re-shuffle.
“Andrew Cripps was Shadow Minister for Disability Services and now there is no dedicated Shadow Minister in this portfolio,” Disability Services Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
“The Opposition hasn’t even appointed a Shadow Disability Services Minister in the latest re-shuffle.
“Instead, they’ve re-shuffled Disability Services off their agenda.
“This is an insult to thousands of Queenslanders with a disability, and their families and carers.
“It shows that delivering better disability services for Queensland families isn’t a high priority for the LNP.”
Ms Palaszczuk said Labor was delivering a record disabilities budget in 2010-11.
“We’re delivering a record $1.61 billion disability services and community care budget, and it’s making a huge difference to the quality of life of thousands of Queenslanders,” she said.
“As part of our YPIRAC program, we’ve so far diverted or moved more than 110 younger Queenslanders from aged care facilities into community living.
“We’re also delivering 126 more places to support older parent carers and establishing autism early intervention services in major regional centres from Cairns to Coolangatta.
“These are exactly the sorts of programs the LNP would have in its sights if it won government.
“While the LNP has abandoned Queenslanders with a disability, Labor never will.
“We’ll continue to give people with a disability and their families the support they expect and deserve.”
