Increasingly accepted as capable, appealing, forms of transportation, particularly in densely populated urban areas, electric two-wheel vehicles include electric bicycles, motorcycles, and scooters.

Acetaminophen Use Linked to Doubled Risk of Asthma in Adolescents

This study has identified that the reported use of acetaminophen in 13- and 14 year old adolescent children was associated with an exposure-dependent increased risk of asthma symptoms. New evidence linking the use of acetaminophen to development of asthma and eczema suggests that even monthly use of the drug in adolescents may more than double risk of asthma in adolescents compared to those who used none at all; yearly use was associated with a 50 percent increase in the risk of asthma.

WiFi in Schools is Very Dangerous for Children - Ontario

American Public Health Researcher Susan Clarke says parents of children in Ontario schools should not accept microwave transmitters for WiFi in classrooms because it can make their children feel sick. "The symptoms, including headaches, dizziness, insomnia, and even erratic speeding heart rates are already documented in fourteen schools throughout Simcoe County since they installed them," said Clarke, who has worked at the Harvard School of Public Health and has lectured on emerging Public Health problems for two decades.

Minister Sues for Wheelchair Discrimination

An ADA discrimination complaint was filed today in federal court in Tampa on behalf of retired Methodist minister Reverend Frances Swartz against Westminster Communities of Florida, which owns and operates 20 retirement centers. Rev. Swartz, 71, is wheelchair-bound due to Parkinson's Disease. The complaint alleges that Westminster's policy forbids wheelchair-bound residents from using the main dining room.

New Law to Protect Injured in Colorado

Pakistan to Create South Asia Disability Forum

The government of Pakistan has agreed and endorsed the establishment of South Asian Disability Forum (SADF) that will network various DPOs and NGOs in South Asis, regardless of the types of disability, to address a regional point of view in South Asia. The decision was taken at the end of the Regional Leadership Conference for Persons with Disability jointly organized by the Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education, British Council, Special Talent Exchange Programme (STEP), Telenor Pakistan and Sightsavers.

Falls are Leading Cause of Injury Among Seniors in China

Falls are the most common injury for both urban and rural elderly in China, responsible for more than two-thirds of all injuries in people 65 and older, according to a new study by researchers from China and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Center for Injury Research and Policy. This is the first study to uncover the leading causes of non-fatal injuries among older adults in China, who make up 9 percent of the total population. The report is available on the website of the journal Injury Prevention.

Former President George W. Bush Provides Encouragement to Disabled Veterans Embarking on Himalayan Climb

Former President George W. Bush called a group of disabled veteran athletes today to provide encouragement and wish them well as they begin training in the Front Range region of the Rocky Mountains this weekend for an extreme mountain climbing challenge that takes place in October. Known as ³Soldiers to the Summit,² World T.E.A.M. Sports organized the expedition of 12 wounded combat veterans from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq who will attempt to summit the 20,075 foot peak of Lobuche East, located just 8.7 miles from Mount Everest in the Himalayas, to evidence that people with disabilities can overcome any challenge. Erik Weihenmeyer, who is celebrating the tenth anniversary of becoming the only blind person to summit Mount Everest, will lead the team.

New Way of Classifying Rheumatoid Arthritis

The American College of Rheumatology today announced the release of revised classification criteria (created in collaboration with the European League Against Rheumatism) for rheumatoid arthritis, which will allow the study of treatments for RA at much earlier stages of the disease—before joint damage occurs—ultimately leading to better patient outcomes. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease that causes pain, stiffness, swelling, and limitation in the motion and function of multiple joints.

The pain of losing a body part is twofold, as the patients not only suffer from wound pain. Often they are also affected by so called phantom pain. Unlike bodily wounds which will eventually heal, phantom pain often lasts for years and sometimes a lifetime.
