Early Intervention: Key to Giving Disadvantaged Children Opportunities they Deserve

Early intervention can provide children with the social and emotional support needed to help fulfil their potential and break the cycles of underachievement which blight some of our poorest communities. An independent review into early intervention, which aims to ensure that children at greatest risk of multiple disadvantage get the best start in life, will be chaired by Graham Allen MP, confirmed Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Iain Duncan Smith and Children’s Minister, Sarah Teather, in an announcement.

Fellowship Square Opens Assisted Living Center in Tucson, Arizona

Seniors in the Tucson area and residents at Fellowship Square now have access to Assisted Living services at The Oasis, which recently opened at the Tucson campus, 8111 East Broadway. In The Oasis Assisted Living, residents receive daily assurance checks, medication reminders, stand-by shower assistance, dressing and medication assistance, monthly vitals and weight checks and an escort to and from the dining room and campus activities.

The Government of Canada Supports Accessibility for All Canadians - Canada's Economic Action Plan improves access to facilities, activities and services. Hold the Future joins East Meets West Foundation

The East Meets West Foundation's 'Life is Beautiful' initiative is an international humanitarian media campaign that aims to raise funds for impoverished people living with disabilities in Vietnam. In Vietnam more than 5.3 million people live with disability, caused by birth defects, illness or injuries. At least 3 million of these are suspected to be related to Agent Orange exposure.

Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Teams Set Sights on London 2012

With the historic 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games now in the record books, Canada's summer-sport athletes today gathered with the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) and Own the Podium (OTP) as they announced their performance goals and launched themselves on the road to the London 2012 Games. The COC reaffirmed its goal for the Canadian Olympic Team to place among the top-12 nations in total medal count and the CPC set its goals for the Canadian Paralympic Team to post a top-8 finish in the gold-medal count.

Interferons - Facts and Information

Interferons are a group of proteins that are produced in a person’s body in response to an attack by a virus. When a cell becomes infected by a virus, it releases tiny amounts of, ‘interferons,’ which then attach themselves to neighboring cells and prompt them to begin producing their own protective antiviral enzymes. The result of these actions is an impairment of the replication and growth of the attacking virus. Interferon has also been demonstrated to have some anti-tumor properties.

More Hospital Acquired Infections are Causing Death

A recent study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that half of all deaths caused by infections such as sepsis and pneumonia resulted from hospital-acquired infections. In 2006, sepsis and pneumonia were the causes of death of 48,000 people and added $8.1 billion to healthcare costs. The study was published on February 22, 2010, and was funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in association with a project researching antibiotic resistance called Extending the Cure.

People With Disabilities Are Earning Jobs With Goodwill's Help

Since the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990, it has helped increase access to goods and services, such as employment opportunities for people with disabilities, and prohibit employment discrimination.
