There are approximately 22 million mentally and/or physically challenged people living in India. Approximately 90% of these people DO NOT have access to formal education. Harmony's mission is to provide educational opportunities for special needs children in rural India.

"These kids have never been singled out for anything positive they've ever done," said Seth Shaffer, Harmony Founder. "Now they have a place where they feel welcome and become a contributing member of their family and community."

In July of 2008, Harmony opened its first school. Located in Dharamsala, India, the school serves children who are mentally and/or physically challenged. The Harmony School was and continues to be embraced by the local Indian community, Indian government officials, as well as the winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace prize, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who named the school, "Illuminating Loving-Kindness" School.

Harmony Through Education is a 501(c)3 non-profit international organization based in Bethesda, Maryland that specializes in education.
