Showcasing Disability Day Care in Durham County
Information provided by Durham County Council - Published: 2010-11-25
Durham County Council’s Ferryhill Leisure Centre will be the setting for an event which aims to showcase the range of facilities on offer for adults with disabilities.
The centre is inviting people who attend adult day care centres in South Durham to a ‘Disability Open Day’ between 10.30am and 3.00pm.
The leisure centre has teamed up with local clubs including Fishburn New Age Kurling Club, Sedgefield Springers Trampoline Club and Ferryhill Indoor Bowls Club, to offer sessions specifically for adults with disabilities in a range of sports and physical activities.
Other activities on offer will include armchair aerobics, Kwik cricket, rowing, boccia, five-a-side, badminton and basketball.
Event organiser, Paul Smith, whose background in disability sport includes competing and coaching as well as his current role in sports development, is passionate about giving disabled people opportunities to participate. “There’s a huge range of sports provided through local clubs and our leisure centres that are accessible to people with disabilities. Events like this encourage people to take advantage of these opportunities.”
