River Bend Golf Classic will Benefit People with Disabilities

Annual River Bend Golf Classic To Be Held In October - Tournament proceeds will directly benefit people living with disabilities.

The 22nd annual River Bend Golf Classic will be held at the Star Hills Golf Club in Cape Carteret, NC, on Friday, October 14, beginning at 1 p.m. The entry deadline for individual players and teams is October 2. The format for this year’s tournament is “Captain’s Choice.”

All proceeds from the event will be used to purchase Christmas gifts and other needed items for 125 people living with developmental disabilities at the RHA Howell River Bend Center in New Bern, NC.

“We continue to be so grateful to Star Hills Golf Club for hosting this annual classic as a fundraiser for our River Bend facility,” said Debbie Valentine, marketing and special events coordinator for RHA Howell, Inc. “It’s a beautiful golf course and the event is always a lot of fun.”

The entry fee for each player is $75, which includes all green fees, cart rental, two mulligans, and a catered dinner that evening. Awards will be presented during the dinner and all players will be eligible for hole-in-one prizes and a variety of door prizes.

Each team in the tournament will be comprised of four players. To receive an entry form for the tournament, contact Tina Stewart at 252-638-6519 or 252-671-1923. Checks should be made out to RHA Howell Golf Classic. Entry forms and checks must be received by October 2 at: RHA/Howell’s Golf Classic, P.O. Box 12159, New Bern, NC 28561.

The 2010 River Bend Golf Classic is dedicated to the memory of Christopher J. Schlaeppi, a psychologist who worked with people with developmental disabilities for 32 years. Schlaeppi died in March of this year after a long battle with cancer.

Registration for the tournament will begin at 11 a.m. along with a putting contest. Play will commence after a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
