The City of Vancouver is celebrating this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3 2009) by hosting an activity-filled public event featuring musical performances, visual art exhibitions, presentations and sporting demonstrations by paralympians and disabled artists.

This free public event is a celebration of the achievements of persons with disabilities in sports, arts and culture.

Last year the event included: a proclamation by the Mayor of Vancouver, musical and theatrical performances, presentations by Paralympic athletes, demonstrations, visual art exhibitions, and more.

This event is being hosted in partnership between the office of Olympic and Paralympic Operations under the ‘Host a City Happening’ Departmental Program, 2010 Legacies Now, disability-related and other community organizations, and Vancouver City department.

The event will provide an opportunity to entertain, educate, eliminate barriers, and reach out to the whole community through a fun, celebratory event.

The City of Vancouver, recognized as one of the most accessible cities in the world, is hosting the event under the ‘Host a City Happening’ Program in partnership with 2010 Legacies Now as well as disability-related and other community organizations.
