Western Australia (abbreviated as W.A.) is a state occupying the entire western third of the Australian continent. The nation's largest state and the second largest sub-national entity in the world, it has 2.1 million inhabitants (10% of the national total), 85% of whom live in the south-west corner of the state.
Western Australia is a vast state covering one third of the Australian continent, arid desert to the east and pristine coastline to the west. Australia is a big country and you may be a little overwhelmed with logistics so be sure you seek expert advice and travel booking assistance when visiting Western Australia.
Perth is the capital and largest city of the state of W.A. and is one of the most isolated metropolitan areas on Earth. The nearest city to Perth with a population over 1 million is Adelaide in South Australia, which is 2,104 kilometres (1,307 mi) away. Perth is geographically closer to East Timor, Singapore and Jakarta, Indonesia, than it is to Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Perth City offers an easygoing lifestyle with the beautiful Swan River and inner-city parks like Kings Park add to the relaxed, natural feel.
Western Australia has over 12,000 kilometres of crystal clear coastline, teeming with brilliant coral, unspoiled reefs, and is bounded by South Australia and the Northern Territory to the east, and the Indian Ocean to the west and north.
Western Australia offers unspoilt beaches, exotic marine life, national reserves and the bluest ocean you'll see anywhere in the world. Swim with whale sharks, meet the dolphins of Monkey Mia and take in the unique rock formations of the Pinnacles. Here you'll find all the essential ingredients for a great holiday as W.A. is one of the world's last true wilderness areas and the place to go for an authentic Aussie outback adventure.
Western Australia has five tourist regions: Australia's Coral Coast, Australia's Golden Outback, Australia's North West, Australia's South West and Experience Perth. Western Australia has a modern road system and most places of interest are signposted. For the more adventurous, try a 4WD.
Perth Accessible Public Transport
In December 1995, the Department of Transport (now Department for Planning and Infrastructure) published "Going Out and Getting There: Action Plan for Accessible Public Transport for People with Disabilities in Perth", which was developed under the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
The Action Plan focussed principally on policy and planning, buses, ferries, trains and taxis. It also addressed issues relating to school buses, community transport and the pedestrian environment. The intent of the Action Plan was to remove discrimination in the provision of existing public transport services as well as providing for accessible public transport in the planning of new initiatives.
