Introduction
Angels of Mercy is a home invasion thriller, with themes of empowerment at its core. It is one of very few films written, produced, and starring a person with a disability, Owen Kent.
Main Item
The film's content and production will serve as a source of encouragement and visibility for the Disabled Community.
Angels of Mercy's message will be delivered to this community through of our affiliation with Centers for Independent Living, an organization of over 400 offices designed to serve the 45 million plus US citizens with disabilities.
While misrepresentation, or a lack of representation, for certain groups has started to enter the discussion and creep through the cracks of the Hollywood system, the disabled community has seemingly been ignored.
Movies like "Me Before You" and even "The Theory of Everything" have cast able-bodied actors for disabled roles.
Some have deemed this act to be "crip face." "Angels of Mercy" aims to change the exclusion of disabled actors and provide a space for those with disabilities in the film industry, in front of and behind the camera.

The film, not only, is designed for empowerment within the disabled community, but also to promote awareness of the biases toward the disabled community often portrayed in popular media.
Many of our crew members will be from the disabled community, but more importantly, our lead actor, who is also a co-writer and co-producer on the film, is from the community as he has the condition Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
To our knowledge, this is the first time someone with this condition has occupied the lead role of a feature film.
We feel as though the horror genre, with such a large audience, is the perfect way to spread our message about the disabled community that many times is ignored or misrepresented in films, despite consisting of nearly 20% of the US population.
More than just being visually stunning, Angels of Mercy is a film that will leave you wanting more and challenge viewers to examine their own ideas about Disability.
However, we need to get the film to the viewers to make this happen. So having the proper funds to get our movie across the finish line is of the utmost importance to us right now. This last year has been a roller coaster for us, but one thing we've learned is that you can make a movie, or you can make a movie right. We know the potential Angels of Mercy has to change the world, and we won't settle until that's achieved.
With this novel approach to social justice horror, we're tackling some of mankind's deepest held assumptions about those with atypical bodies and abilities.
We are asking questions about what it means to live with a disability in the modern age.
Questions about how technology will change the lives of those with disabilities, and questions like, 'is eugenics still something subconsciously practiced?'
By contributing to our project, you will be a part of a very special film that is an important piece of the Independent Living Movement as it takes on the misrepresentations and preconceived notions of those with disabilities in the media.
