Not only does Skype offer cheap phone calls worldwide and FREE Skype to Skype calls using your computer, they now also offer a free Skype Instant Messenger (IM) with free one-to-one video calls. Skype now comes with video calling so you can see who you are talking to. As long as you and the person you call both have webcams.

Skype was created in August of 2003 and is now solely owned by eBay since October 2005. There are now more than 75 million Skype users worldwide. Talk, listen, watch, read, write to anyone, anywhere in the world without worrying about cost, distance or time is what Skype state on their website.

Skype IM is like any other Instant Messaging program, but concentrates far more on VOIP (Voice Over IP) capabilities.

Not only does Skype offer cheap phone calls worldwide and FREE Skype to Skype calls using your computer, they now also offer a free Skype Instant Messenger (IM) with free one-to-one video calls. Skype now comes with video calling so you can see who you are talking to. As long as you and the person you call both have webcams.

Skype allows VoIP under virtually any conditions including users behind firewalls and NATs. Skype is also the only instant messenger that encrypts data transfers, making it the most secure IM available.

There is a separate download for Skype for Pocket PC which gives a Pocket PC and equivalent Wi-Fi enabled devices the ability to act as an instant messenger and make skype phone calls from any hot spot.

To make video calls you'll need a computer with at least a 1GHz processor, 256 MB RAM and of course a webcam.

Mac Computer Requirements for Running Skype:

Mac computer with G4 800 Mhz processor or faster.

Mac OS X v10.3.9 Panther or later.

512 MB RAM.

40 MB free disk space on your hard drive.

Microphone and speakers or headset.

Internet connection (broadband is best).

Quicktime 7 or later
