Synopsis: House Adaptation Consultants is an Irish company offering service to the elderly and those with a disability who are requiring home adaptations to restore and facilitate independent living.

Introduction

House Adaptation Consultants Ltd (HAC) is a unique newly launched Irish company that offers a nationwide service to the elderly and those with a disability who are requiring home adaptations to restore and facilitate independent living, privacy, confidence and dignity for themselves and their families.

Main Item

House Adaptation Consultants provide advice to disabled and older persons on relevant House adaptations following a comprehensive needs analysis. HAC provide assistance with completing the relevant local authority grant application process. The grant can help you to make changes and install house adaptations to your home.

This bespoke service provided by HAC includes initial assessments of the client's needs by means of developing confidential contact with the individual and by liaising with their relevant occupational therapist, medical professional and/or public health nurse. Each client's requirement will quickly be established and the best adaptation for their home recommended.

The finance of such projects is a barrier for most people but to overcome this HAC carry out an assessment of the applicant's financial requirements to establish their eligibility for a Housing Adaptation Grant. The Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability, the Housing Aid for Older People Grant and the Mobility Aids Housing Grant Scheme are all available to people who require adaptations to their home and these grants are currently administered by the Loans and Grant Section and are funded 80% by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and 20% by Local County Council's internal resources.

HAC arrange the administration of the correct application for each client to their relevant local authority for a financial grant to complete works in each case. All applications under the three schemes are means tested and are assessed on the basis of household income. On approval of such funding, whether it be from a local authority or from another source, HAC then engages a building contractor and equipment suppliers from their pre-approved panel of specialist contractors and suppliers to carry out all building/installation works required.

HAC was established following the identification of a significant need for such a consultancy service in the area of House Adaptations for the disabled and the elderly. Research carried out indicated that house adaptations and grant applications for many people affected with mobility and disabilities showed that the entire process was a daunting and complicated task to those involved. Providing this administration service nationwide free of charge service should eliminate the stress that would have been endured by applicants and ultimately simplify the entire procedure for all concerned.

There are currently no other companies in Ireland providing a service similar to that of HAC and as it is the first consultancy service of its kind available in this healthcare sector, the availability of this service to the individual will be very welcomed and will no doubt streamline the existing process as we know it.

House Adaptation Consultants (HAC) assist older and disabled persons, their families or carers with completing a house adaptation.
