Main Item
Cumberland Academy of Georgia focuses on providing the highest quality of education to children with a variety of special needs including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Asperger's, attention deficit disorder (ADD), and autism.
The main mission of the school is to provide their students not only with excellent curriculum, but also with life and social skills that educate the students on how to become self-sufficient adults.
The curriculum at Cumberland Academy of Georgia is revolutionary in the sense that it allows students to learn on different levels depending on their strength in the subject. Students who excel at science can learn at an advanced year, but will receive additional help in the subjects they struggle on. This encourage students to want to learn as opposed to learning because they are required to.
Cumberland Academy of Georgia strives to assist the social and emotional needs of each and every one of their students.
Students are challenged to speak publicly and interpret the social cues of their fellow students and teachers, one of the main things children with autism find difficult.
The school offers many athletic opportunities and after school programs that help the students develop life and social skills. Some of the school's opportunities for team sports include soccer, cheerleading, volleyball, cheerleading and track.
After school programs and activities have been developing rapidly at Cumberland Academy of Georgia. One such program, called "Girl Talk," connects students at the school by having them help each other with their problems and work towards finding a solution together. Additionally, the school has created a Robotics Club for their technologically savvy students.
"We are so thrilled to have enrolled our 100th student this year," said Debbi Scarborough, founding director of Cumberland Academy of Georgia. "We hope to continue to develop our curriculum and programs along with the growth of the school, and enroll even more students."
