Who is Disabled World - Our Story

Disabled-World.com does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

The Disabled World website was launched in May 2004, to provide a much-needed international online community for people with disabilities. With over 54 million people classified as disabled in the USA alone (The Census Bureau), there was a need to provide people with disabilities a website where people with of all ages, and from all walks of life, could unite on common ground free from membership fees and charges, share experiences, information and provide tips of assistance to the newly and life long disabled.

Disabled-World.com (Disabled World) is a standalone publication of Auscan Alliance Corp whose CEO is Ian Langtree. Disabled World is an independent Health and Disability news source that offers subject areas covering seniors and disability news, assistive device reviews, and articles on everything from helpful tips to disability sports articles.

In addition to our inhouse writers and columnists our website information comes from volunteer writers, educational institutes and worldwide government organizations that submit quality disability related news items, public notices and coming events for publishing.

Our Mission Statement

The mission of Disabled World is to report daily health and disability news and inform the public.

Disabled World believes in the Social Model of Disability, a belief developed by disabled people in the 1970s, the social model changes the focus away from people's impairments and towards removing the barriers that disabled people face in everyday life. Our slogan "Towards Tomorrow" reflects on the fact that humanity is on its way toward the manifestation of global recognition of the rights and abilities of people with disabilities.

Disabled World is labeled as a family-friendly website and is more than happy to research material relating to articles or products should visitors seek further information on a particular topic or product. Unless noted otherwise, contributors should NOT be considered as health professionals, although they might have extensive experience in certain areas.
