Who is Disabled World (DW) - Our Story

Disabled-World.com does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

The Disabled World (DW) website was launched in May 2004 to foster an essential international online community for people with disabilities. In the United States, where more than 54 million individuals are identified as disabled by the Census Bureau, there was a significant need for a credible platform that offers dependable journalistic insights on disability issues and statistics. Our platform enables individuals of all ages and backgrounds to share their experiences and access valuable resources tailored for both those newly encountering disabilities and those who have lived with them for many years.

Disabled-World.com, operated by Auscan Alliance Corp and led by CEO Ian Langtree, is an independent publication focused on health and disability issues. It serves as a comprehensive resource, providing coverage on topics related to seniors and disabilities, including reviews of assistive devices and peer-reviewed information ranging from practical tips to information about disability sports.

In addition to our inhouse writers and columnists our website content comes from volunteer writers, educational institutes and world governments that submit quality disability related news items, peer reviewed items, public notices and coming events.

Our Mission Statement

The mission of Disabled World is to provide reliable and impartial information about disabilities to educate the public.

Disabled World believes in the Social Model of Disability, a belief developed by disabled people in the 1970's, the social model changes the focus away from people's impairments and towards removing the barriers that disabled people face in everyday life. Our slogan "Towards Tomorrow" reflects on the fact that humanity is on its way toward the manifestation of global recognition of the rights and abilities of people with disabilities.

Disabled World is labeled as a family-friendly website and is more than happy to research material relating to articles or products should visitors seek further information on a particular topic or product. Unless noted otherwise, contributors should NOT be considered as health professionals, although they might have extensive experience in certain areas.
