The Texas Department of Transportation is hosting a series of public outreach meetings regarding public transportation to enhance mobility for seniors and individuals with disabilities in rural communities throughout the state.
Interested citizens and stakeholders in the Brownwood District are invited to participate in a meeting on Friday, Jan. 20 at 2:30 p.m.
The meeting will originate in San Angelo at the Concho Valley Transit District terminal at 510 N. Chadbourne St., though interested parties are also welcome to participate in the meeting via teleconference at the TxDOT Brownwood District Headquarters located at 2495 US 183 North, Brownwood, Texas 76802.
Those who are unable to attend either location can also participate in the meeting via Webex or conference call. More information is available on the TxDOT website under Hearings and Meetings.
The purpose of the meeting is to gather information from local stakeholders regarding the distribution of funds for the local 5310 Enhanced Mobility for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities program. Information will be provided as to the local application process.
Public transportation provides mobility options, reduces traffic congestion, conserves fuel, improves air quality, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and supports emergency preparedness in the areas it serves.
TxDOT promotes and supports public transportation by collaborating with local governments, nonprofit entities and other transportation providers.
TxDOT provides funding to assist the needs of elderly individuals and persons with disabilities when current transportation service is unavailable, insufficient or inappropriate.
The Enhanced Mobility for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities program provides funds for services for seniors and individuals with disabilities. The way the funds are being distributed has changed. The public is being invited to provide input regarding the distribution for the fiscal years 2017-18 available to the local area. Information will be provided by the local public transportation coordinator regarding the application process for the funds.
