The provincial government will expand the Disability Support Program into the Saint John and Bathurst regions this fiscal year, Social Development Minister Mary Schryer announced.

"The Disability Support Program recognizes that individuals with a disability require personalized and flexible supports tailored to their specific needs," said Schryer.

Individuals participating in the program may choose to obtain the services of an independent facilitator to help them develop a personalized support plan.

The program is currently available in the Fredericton and Madawaska regions. Social Development announced last year that the program would be expanded into all regions by 2010-11.

"The provincial roll-out of the program is being completed in stages to allow time for program design and training, and consultation within each specific region," said the minister.

Social Development provides a variety of services to individuals with disabilities in New Brunswick, including home support services, training, transportation assistance and funding for specialized assistive devices.
