Motor-Racing Star Nicolas Hamilton Joins Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and Children's TV Presenter Ade Adepitan on Alps Challenge.
Up and coming motor-racing star; Nicolas Hamilton has announced that he will be joining Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and Children's TV presenter Ade Adepitan on the Disabled Motoring UK Alps Challenge.
The Alps Challenge, will see a team from Disabled Motoring UK take a mobility trike from Queen's House, Greenwich, through France and across the Swiss Alps, recreating a journey originally made, on the same 1932 Argson Mobility trike, in 1947 by the founder of Disabled Motoring UK, Mr O.A Denly.
Nicolas, 19 and younger brother of Formula 1 2008 World Champion Lewis, suffers from cerebral palsy. However, motor-racing is in his blood and Nicolas is currently in training for the Renault Clio Cup a feeder event for the British Touring Car Championship.
Disabled Motoring UK were delighted that after a successful re-brand of Disabled Motoring UK from 'Mobilise', they were able to convince Nicolas to join the Alps Challenge and contribute to their long-term strategy of attracting new and younger members to the charity.
Nicolas took time out of training to explain his decision: "I am really excited to be joining the Alps Challenge. The Alps Challenge is a real opportunity to inspire everyone to live their lives to the full, whatever their circumstances" Nicolas said.
Graham Footer of Disabled Motoring UK said: "Having such a high-profile and driven youngster like Nicolas on board is enormous. We really hope that both the challenge and the support of people like Nicolas, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and Ade Adepitan can only boost the profile of Disabled Motoring UK and will help dispel the myth that having a disability prevents people from living the lives they want to lead."
Joining Nicolas and Disabled Motoring UK will also be two Paralympic stars; Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and Ade Adepitan.
As Tanni says "People don't understand I don't need pushing and still equate disability with what you cannot do" she explains. It is this Tanni says which makes the 2011 Disabled Motoring UK Alps Challenge so important. "We have to change public perception in a positive way. O.A Denly did that in 1947 by crossing the Alps in his mobility trike. The hope is we can do it again now."
