The conference intended for all Stem Cell researchers and clinicians providing an overview of unanswered questions, new research directions and resources for Stem Cell research shed the light on the ever-growing and exciting research occurring in India in the developing area of Stem cells and the stem cell market all over the world.

First time ever in India, International Stem Cell Summit India 2008 took place from November 14th - 16th, 2008 at IIT Madras, Chennai.

Organized by the renowned personalities in Stem Cell field, like Dr. Rama S. Verma IIT Madras; Dr. Ravikumar Lifeline Hospitals, Chennai; Dr. Ramananda Nadig, CREMA, Bangalore; Dr. N. Kapadia, Lifeline Hospitals, Chennai & Dr. M. Baskaran, CEO, Lifeline Hospitals Chennai.

The conference intended for all Stem Cell researchers and clinicians providing an overview of unanswered questions, new research directions and resources for Stem Cell research shed the light on the ever-growing and exciting research occurring in India in the developing area of Stem cells & the stem cell market all over the world, which is expected to rise to 10 billion dollar by 2015.

This summit offered unique opportunities for finding new alternative treatments for degenerative diseases like Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases, Ophthalmic & Neural Diseases. It involved plenary sessions on the current status & future of clinical applications of stem cells, given by academia and industry leaders from world over.

Some of the speakers participating in the conference were Prof. Stephen G. Emerson, University of Pennsylvania; Prof. Hal E. Broxmeyer, Indiana University; Dr. Denis English, University of South Florida Tampa; Dr. John W. McDonald, Johns Hopkins University; Dr. P Russo, Temple University; Dr. D. Balasubramanian, L. V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad; Dr. Catherine Prescott, Biolatris Ltd., UK; Dr. Alok Srivastava, CMC, Vellore.

Various topics covering the stem cell conference to examine the issues and advances relating to stem cell research and applications were Stem Cell biology, Tissue Engineering, Advances in Clinical Applications & Advances in Industrial applications. The discussions on these topics leading to the exploration of the new treatments for various incurable diseases were beneficial for the patients & general public. Therefore, in this way, this informatory & much enlightening source offered a platform for the general public society like Stem Cell Voice of India which works in the interest of patients & general public, providing them the true picture of all the aspects of stem cell technology.

Stem Cell Voice of India is a non profit general public society, founded by Mr. Karan Goel, a patient of Retinitis Pigmentosa, with a vision to bring awareness and to improve scientific understanding in Stem Cell field for finding cure of the incurable diseases & to avoid patient abuse, as there are no laws existing in this field, by integrating all the sectors like doctors, patients, scientists, legal bodies, business people, students & NGOs etc. Stem Cell Voice of India: as a general public representative participated in ISCSI by presenting a lecture on "Fetal Liver cytokines and their role in Hematopoiesis" represented by one of its leading member & supporter, Dr. Vinod Kochupillai in the Summit on 15th November. The Director of SRM Medical College and Health Science, Kanchipuram & Former Chief of Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital, AIIMS, participated in ISCSI as SCVI member just as one step towards SCVI's aim of bringing awareness.

Hence with this International Stem Cell Summit, we could see the advancement in stem cell technology not only in India but around the world and the awareness about it among the masses, as Stem Cell Voice of India aims to.
