World famous conductor and violinist Yuriy Bashmet was announced as an Ambassador for Sochi 2014, Russia's first ever Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The maestro was presented with a special diploma from the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee following the International Winter Music Festival, which takes place annually in the Black Sea coastal city.Main Content
World famous conductor and violinist Yuriy Bashmet was announced as an Ambassador for Sochi 2014, Russia's first ever Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The maestro was presented with a special diploma from the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee following the International Winter Music Festival, which takes place annually in the Black Sea coastal city.
Since winning the race to host the Paralympic 2014 Games, Sochi is developing as an international cultural center, as well as a global winter sports destination. The International Winter Music Festival attracted musicians from Bulgaria, Puerto Rico, USA, Belarus, and several other countries across the world.
Sochi 2014 President and CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko said:
"After just two years, the International Winter Musical Festival has become a major event in the cultural life of Russia. Much of the credit for this goes to Yuriy Bashmet, who has been instrumental in attracting some of the finest Russian and international musicians to Sochi. We are delighted to announce his role as an Ambassador for Sochi 2014, and excited by the sporting, economic and cultural development that will continue in Sochi thanks to the efforts of people like Yuriy."
The third Winter Musical Festival will take place in Sochi from 14-21 February, 2010, and will enter the program of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad.
