2 - Feb -2009 - Organizers for the 2014 Sochi Games are touting a new domestic sponsorship deal worth $260 million as the largest of its kind in Olympic history. The Rostelecom and MegaFon telecommunications companies became the first "Tier One" partners of the games and also pledged to invest about $200 million to develop the region's infrastructure, the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee announced Saturday. Putin has promised to turn Sochi into a world-class winter sports center, giving assurances that the budget will not be cut. He said plans call for outlays of $3.2 billion this year and $3.6 billion in 2010. The deal comes as the Russian government seeks to assure the International Olympic Committee that the country's economic troubles won't jeopardize state funding for the event.
