Synopsis: This information comes from the Take a Pain Check Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting youth and young adults navigating life with rheumatic diseases, and details their scholarship program for the 2025/2026 academic year. The program is useful and relevant to students dealing with chronic illness who often face financial barriers to education, as well as to their families and advisors seeking funding opportunities; the dual-track approach—offering scholarships in both STEM and non-STEM disciplines—recognizes that talented students with rheumatic diseases pursue diverse career paths, while the bilingual application process (English and French) ensures accessibility for Canadian students across different linguistic communities. By removing financial obstacles and publicly recognizing academic achievement among students managing chronic illness, this scholarship helps reduce one significant source of stress for an already vulnerable population - Disabled World (DW).
Introduction
The Take a Pain Check Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support and empower youth and young adults with rheumatic diseases, is excited to announce the return of their annual young scholars program for the 2025/2026 academic year. The return of this annual scholarship represents an important vote of confidence in the capabilities and potential of young people managing rheumatic conditions while pursuing higher education. For many students with chronic illness, the combination of medical costs, treatment demands, and the unpredictability of their health can make affording post-secondary education feel impossible—making dedicated funding like this genuinely transformative for their educational and career prospects.
